Why baby skin may need time to adjust after a product change
At Parasol, our mission is simple: innovation for the sake of skin.
Recently, we upgraded our topsheet to include Chamomile Alpha-Bisabolol, a medicinal-grade active compound proven to offer 99%+ antimicrobial protection. Our team spent years working on this upgrade, and we believe that this breakthrough will set a new benchmark for diaper safety and skin protection.
A small number of our long-time families have reached out to share that their babies have experienced new sensitivities in recent weeks. We know that any material change - whether it is a softer backsheet, a more efficient core, or an upgraded topsheet —can trigger unexpected reactions. We understand how frustrating this is and take any product feedback very seriously. If your baby is experiencing a reaction, we want to add some context to the upgrade and, most importantly, help you navigate the next steps.
1. Flower or Function: What is Alpha-Bisabolol?
Alpha-Bisobolol is nature’s gift to medicine. It is a medicinal-grade, skin-soothing compound derived from chamomile and widely used in dermatology and clinical skincare.
Parasol diapers remain 100% fragrance-free.
Some may hear “Chamomile” and think of a floral fragrance, essential oil, or botanical extract added for smell. Alpha-Bisabolol is derived from chamomile. But it is extracted at the molecular level and performs very differently from an additive for smell or taste. Some of its powers and benefits include the following:
-
Antimicrobial Protection
Provides 99%+ effectiveness against bacteria, yeast, and fungi—the most common contributors to diaper rash. Unlike antibacterial ingredients (which target only bacteria), antimicrobial protection offers broader coverage. -
Anti-Inflammatory Support
Helps calm skin and reduce redness at a cellular level.
2. When skin reacts to something “better.”
Baby skin is incredibly sensitive—and incredibly smart. It functions as a living ecosystem, developing a unique balance of moisture, pH, and microbiome based on what touches it every day. When your baby wears the same diaper for months, their skin adapts perfectly to those materials.
When we introduce a new topsheet or ingredient—even one designed to be gentler and cleaner—the skin may need time to adjust.
An easy way to think about it: It’s like changing a diet. Even switching between two healthy foods can cause a short adjustment period before the body settles. Baby skin works the same way.
The combination of a new topsheet texture and a new botanical active (even a soothing one like Alpha-Bisabolol) can occasionally lead to temporary contact sensitivity while the skin learns to interact with the updated formula.
3. Our Commitment: How We Will Support You
We never want you to feel that you are navigating your baby’s skin journey alone. If you notice any redness or irritation following a product transition, we are here to partner with you to find a resolution.

-
The "Reset" Strategy: In many cases, we recommend a "break" for 2 to 4 weeks. This allows the baby’s skin barrier to fully reset and strengthen. We have found that many parents who reintroduce the upgraded diaper after this period find their baby’s skin is much more receptive to the new antimicrobial benefits.
